Edward Burtynsky has been an explorer of unfamiliar places where modern industrial activity has reshaped the surface of the land.
China
Burtynsky presents photographs of the remnant and newly established zones of Chinese industrialisation - those places created while realising the 'glory' of wealth for a powerful civilisation yearning to move forward and join the ranks of modern nations.
Oil
In these pics, Edward Burtynsky shows the man-made world–the human ecosystem–that has risen up around production, use, an dwindling availability of our paramount energy source. The mechanics and industry of extraction and refinement; the development, products, and activities associated with transportation and motor culture; and the wreckage, obsolescence, and human cost that lies at The End of Oil.
Following the idea mentioned in the previous post, a few rough mockups were made.
An appropriate quote by a designer, in this case Dieter Rams, contrasts an image by Burtynsky that shows the neglect of the rule. The aim of this poster series is to question the role of the designer, to persuade designers to be conscious of their products and to reconsider what is needed to be designed. However the purpose of this possible idea would only be to raise awareness which is hardly effective considering how many people aren't designers themselves.
