A publication that resembles a VHS box.
This idea plays on the notion of Brief being about a public information video and being in the 80s. The front cover design will inform the reader that it is a "video" about the dangers of pylons and electricity, whilst the inside pages are left for the content. With this design, there are 3 possible ways for the information to be displayed and the artistic style as a whole. The publication could be done in the style that was made famous in 80s pop culture, it could be done in a graphic style that was present in the 80s such as post modernist, or it could combined the two styles, leaving the graphics in the iconic 80s style whilst the information is arranged in a post modernist way for example. Overall this idea revolves around the publication being the size of the VHS and having both the front and back cover resembling a VHS tape sleeve.
A publication done in the 80s graphic design
This idea is simply basing off the graphic design style that was practiced by the designers in the 80s. Referring back to research made previously, the publication could incorporate a post modernist style and similarly styled colour compositions or shapes such as the designs made by Memphis Design studio that made the 80s so recognisable. This idea visually is better than the first because of how coherent the overall visual of the publication may be. The first idea may become too overwhelming with the colour palette and 80s pop culture references. However because of the young target audience, an 80s graphic design may not be as appreciated as the references to 80s pop culture. It may result in a less effective communication of the message. Because of this visual being "muted" as compared to the first idea, in order to fully engage with the reader, a more creative folding technique will be required to initiate interest and convey the information in a more exciting manner.
A publication in the shape of a pylon
This idea is meant to convey the message as literally as possible whilst relaying the information in a more unique form of a leaflet.
Overall the VHS idea is the most suitable for this brief. The VHS is suitable because of its appeal to the target audience and because it is a subtle play on the idea of it being a publication based around a public information video. By resembling a VHS video tape the publication then becomes more relatable to the target audience. It offers intrigue because the cover does not reveal everything and would force them to look at the information inside. And because of this, this approach would be more creative as opposed any other typical leaflet design.

Heaven 42 - 150-170 gsm, coated
PhoeniXmotion -135-150 gsm, coated
These stock options were chosen based on their thickness and feel. For this publication, the choice for a slightly thicker stock would carry the message in a more serious tone and gives the publication more credibility, in other words it reduces the chances of the reader discarding the publication on first glances. It would also be appropriate if the publication included a poster within its design. However for the choice uncoated or coated stock option would have to be chosen after experimenting with actual mock ups of the publication. An uncoated finish may be preferable because it absorbs the ink better whilst a coated finish may be preferable due to its realness to actual VHS cover sleeves.
