Scale.
The number one criticism I had for my symbol design of YSP was the scale. I failed to implement my designs on the range of scales that I saw around the park. I had a good selection of pictures of where the logos were used but didn’t take the opportunity to superimpose them onto it.
My designs looked appropriate on large scale however there was concern of whether or not the detail would be lost scaled down. My designs would have been too intricate to be seen on the small leaflets and posters that appear around the park. This criticism has to be taken account especially for the studio brief coming up. For a successful re-design to work it has to be seen on real world objects and the materials the company use. It helps sell the design better and reassures the customers that the logo design is effective.
What I found was good about other peoples work was that some of them took a recognisable sculpture of the park and really focused on one aspect of the sculpture to turn it into a logo itself. Others found the negative space more valuable than the sculptures themselves to represent a symbol, taking a less than direct route in conveying what the park is about. And it reflects the kind of abstract sculptures that surround the park.
