The collages above were made from the scanning of left over work from monoprinted and screenprinted techniques. They were turned to greyscale to keep in line with the publications colour scheme.
The scans were adjusted to produce dark, highly contrasting images to be dramatic on the reader.
The first two are James's compositions whilst mine play with the angular directions of the cut images whilst balancing the light and darker areas of the collage. The compositions are mainly vertical to emphasise the height of the page.

The letterforms are outlined to allow the collages to come through.
Light Ultra Condensed univers is used in Fig. 1 to maintain the look of the prominent vertical strips in the collage.
A number of weights are used in Fig. 2 to give a lively and dynamic composition that explores scale and placement. The jumbled arrangement of 'univers' forces the readers eye to dart around the page. It also removes much of the meaning and focuses the design on the letterforms.
Fig. 3 is more restrained in its typographic treatment compared to the others. The vertical alignment of univers highly contrasts against the light background of the texture.
