Mountboard printing

To mimic traditional hot metal typesetting, large sizes of U N I V E R S were lasercut from mountboard. Ideally woodblock type would have been used however, the printing presses weren't able to accommodate the size and thickness of the wood type.

Monoprinting the letterforms produced the recognisable imprint when printing through analog techniques. The slight imperfections in the ink and the deeper, sharper register compared to digital.

Some compositions were made freehand during the monoprinting process, acting spontaneously and through feeling. Compared to digital typesetting, there was much less worry on how the end result will look like.

The rest of the monoprints.
