The Brief

Choose a typeface of your choice and express it in its best creative means.

Rationale

Univers is our chosen typeface. It is a highly versatile sans serif typeface that looks good for both headline and long text. The wide range of weights from thin ultra condensed to extra black extended give the typesetter a multitude of options to help create their designs, limiting the need to use another typeface to suit the specific need. However much of the use of Univers in the past was predominantly for function. 

This brief gives us the opportunity to turn this on its head, to explore the typeface through more artistic means that would challenge the original purpose of the typeface. This offers us a chance to do something that breaks away from the usual purpose orientated briefs. We want to explore more visual representations of our favourite typeface that can help us broaden our techniques and approach towards graphic design.

To demonstrate an understanding of the past processes that has shaped the use of Univers and to reinterpret these for more artistic representations.
To take advantage of the variety of weights.
To turn the typical use and representation of Univers on its head.
