In both possible designs, the tree represents the centralised image. The left placement of this image allows for the design to blend into the white space more naturally rather than having a straightedge border which can create a more static design. In the backgorund, these pictures were chosen to highlight the effect of deforestation on the landscape. The large horizon, bleak atmosphere and amount of fallen trees help communicate that. Furthermore the choice of background also relates to the imagery of the tree on the left. In the first design, a full tree is contextually matched with the scence of a depleting forest. In the second, the dying stump is matched with the imagery of cut down trees with stumps left lying. Along the bottom, the cross section of logs represent what these trees turn into and emphasises the amount of trees that are cut.
These are the resulting prints. As said in the previous blog post, these were also met with printing complications. Design b was not chosen to be printed because of how it did not effectively structure the notes design. Because of the length of the tree in Design a, it establishes a clear boundary between the white space and design whilst still being contextual.
