To demonstrate this idea, only one side of the note will be displayed in the exhibition. This side was chosen based on how successful it was in the previous re design, producing high quality prints and being widely accepted visually from feedback. Furthermore the design was the more informed and developed of the two sides.
In both the new designs, the grid has been altered to give each one a distinct look. These were based of the sketches made from looking at aerial photographs of farms.
To keep a consistency throughout the notes, the same patterns have been used. What will effectively differentiate them from each other is the grade of stock used and the bold typeface indicating the value. To help give each one its own design as well, different plants have been used. These were chosen in relation to the fern used in the 20 Terra note, specifically to evoke tropical imagery in the reader. Tropical was chosen because of how one typically relates the word tropical to an image of the forest or jungle. Hence making the plants have a more contextual link to the topic of deforestation instead of being placed for visual appeal.
During this design process a adjustment to the note's alternate side was made as well.
The graph was removed due to it being too vague of an idea to include. Without a title, the graph has no contextual merit and confuses the reader as to why it is on the note. The removal actually benefits the overall design. Without the distraction the design is a lot more focused in terms of highlighting the patterns design which is also the main visual point on the other side of the note. In this redesign as well, the smallest cross section has been simplified. Less rings are included to prevent the mistakes made in the initial designs. To keep both ideas open and to not decide too early on the final outcome, both sides will be printed.
