Studio Brief 02 - Screenprinting with the re design

Mountain Lotka

The simpler more abstract approach in representing deforestation had a dramatic effect on the quality of the prints. The prints are a lot higher in quality. The lines are crisper and the ink is more uniform in colour. In some of the prints the register is so precise that it could be mistaken for a digital print, hence why there were less prints done on certain stocks as the desired quality was achieved. With this new design as well, the dimensions of the note can be true to the intended size. The previous designs were done in a much larger size that was done to take advantage of the 21x26cm space given. In this design, the notes are printed in 11x6cm size, which is explained in a previous blog post. This dimension is more contextual to the design and better communicates the overall theme. By having the note in its intended size, it explicitly demonstrates to the viewer how the note is meant to save on paper,  reducing its impact on deforestation. Issues in print quality still cropped up however on the Mountain Lotka stock, because of its thinness and possible uneven surface, the inks register isn't entirely accurate. Overall the re design is a success. It results in more accurate printing and allows for the note to be done in the intended size.

Feedback was also received on the range of stocks. The overall agreement was to develop on the Mountain Lotka paper. What is popular about the stock is the visible fibers and flecks and the thinness which made it have a unique characteristic. This contributed to why it  communicated the theme of eco conscious the most.
