From the range of ideas presented in the last crit, there were none that clearly stood out from the rest. People were ranging in their preference and did not clearly identify an idea for me to take further. This lack of preference highlights the numerous effects that man has made destructively onto the environment that cannot be pinpointed to one general idea. Therefore to progress on with the brief, a choice has to be made to develop an idea that is most contextual to the banknotes medium and has the potential experiment greatly with the design. Based on the banknote's medium of paper, highlighting the impact of deforestation would be the most appropriate. This theme will have a more effective and contextual impact on the type of stock used for the note, the size and the kind of design as compared to if the design were to be about rising sea levels. Therefore the banknotes design will incorporate 2 designs on alternate sides that run on the theme of deforestation. These being the design idea based off the cross cut section of a tree trunk and the idea to display the progress of deforestation. What is good about these two ideas is that they relate to one another and follow the effective design principles of Ootje Oxenaar's note design. The cross cut section will act as the large, saturated central image that dominates the overall visual look and also gives the reader an idea of the notes theme. The other side displaying the rate of deforestation is the smaller more general imagery that will become the back of the note.
Being that the note's design is centered around environmental concerns and more specifically deforestation, the notes design should be a medium to demonstrate this. For example, the stock used should be made from recycled paper and the size of the note should be smaller than usual. A recycled stock will comment on the efforts to reduce the impact of deforestation and demonstrate the usability of recycled stock which has yet to be used widely in the public domain. Furthermore a smaller note size will comment on this as well as the smaller size will help in reducing the amount of paper used for the note's production. The inks used can also have an affect on the resulting design. Being that the motif is about saving the material used in making the banknote, less inks could be used to demonstrate this idea.
