Studio Brief 02 - Notes front re design

In the recent re design, for a point in time only the back of the notes design was considered and developed. Redesigning the initial front design proved to be challenging in finding a solution that relates to the back of the note as well give a ground level view of deforestation. In feedback, there was a comment to take the back design's theme of patterns onto the front that was seen in the initial design.

This is the initial mock up. What resembled a pattern on the initial design was the cross section of the trees. Following the same abstract style on the back of the note, the cross section was done in circles, with the outside bark done in a thicker line weight to establish the position of each one. To keep in line with the overall simplicity, there are only 3 sizes of each cross section. In this mock up the world symbol was done in a realistic style to better convey that the note had 2 intended sides, this was changed in a later design.

To help relate the notes design further, the cross section were placed in the shape of a graph displaying the deforestation in the Amazon.

To explicitly display the graph's trend, a clear distinction was done between the two areas of cross sections. Both of these designs weren't visually appealing however.

Instead a more literal representation of a graph was used, having it as negative allows for the line to stand out through contrast. Adding to that the cross section pattern was extended to the margins which relates this design to the backs. As explained earlier, the realistic world symbol was changed. This is an attempt to let the pattern differentiate the front and backs design whilst keeping a trait constant between the two. As a result the viewers eyes are less visually distracted when flipping between the two sides.
